Sony may be closing the book on its Resistance series, if reports are to be believed. Daniel Brooke, SCEE's online producer, told Official PlayStation Magazine that "The Resistance franchise has been exciting to work on but as for the future we have no definitive plans." This is backed up somewhat by Insomniac's revelation earlier in the year that it had no plans to make any more Resistance games.
Considering the stuttering sales of recent releases, especially the latest edition PS Vita, perhaps it is indeed better to let it rest for now and perhaps reboot it further down the line.
Ubisoft has provided updated release dates for some of its biggest titles being launched this year. Far Cry 3 will now be released on 30th November in the UK for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Just Dance 4 will be released on 2nd October in the UK for Wii, Kinect for Xbox 360, and Sony PlayStation Move for PlayStation 3. The game also will be released on the Wii U during the console's launch window.
Rocksmith, now with new content that allows players to plug in and play with a bass guitar, will be released in the UK on 28th September for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version will then be released on 19th October.
Along with the revised release dates, Ubisoft also is reaffirming its previously communicated financial guidance for 2012-13.
Nintendo has just released Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 in Japan, and Famitsu has now released the sales information for the first ever direct sequels to a mainline entry of the Pocket Monsters series. In its initial two days on sale, 1,619,000 copies have left retail and firmly found their way into eager gamers' hands.
Although this may fall extremely short of the mammoth 2,637,285 achieved by Pokemon Black Version and White Version in Japan when it launched in the third quarter of 2010, it fares considerably well against its peers, with sales as follows:
- Pokemon Red / Green (Game Boy) - 109,000
- Pokemon Gold / Silver (Game Boy) - 1,430,000
- Pokemon Ruby / Sapphire (Game Boy Advance) - 1,250,000
- Pokemon FireRed / LeafGreen (Game Boy Advance) - 955,000
- Pokemon Diamond / Pearl (Nintendo DS) - 1,590,000
- Pokemon HeartGold / SoulSilver (Nintendo DS) - 1,410,000
As can be seen from the above, Pokemon Black and White 2 have become the second fastest selling Pokemon games ever, which is stunning when the Nintendo DS is all but dead in Japan (although the 32,855,000 existing userbase clearly helps!) and the Nintendo 3DS is only up to 6,288,000 units sold so far.
Other statistics that may interest people: this is the first million-plus seller of the year in Japan, and it is the third biggest start for a DS game, with Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies being the second at 2,343,440 in its first week.
Get ready for classic arcade video game action with a whole new modern look and feel as Activision and Disney Interactive have announced a collaboration to produce and distribute a Wreck-It Ralph video game. As a story extension to the highly anticipated upcoming blockbuster film of the same name from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the Wreck-It Ralph video game is set to inspire a whole new generation of young gamers as a classic, arcade-style side-scroller featuring Ralph, the misunderstood villain of his own arcade game who sets out to prove he can be a hero, too. Debuting this Autumn in the US tied to the movie release, Wreck-It Ralph will bring all the fun from the big screen right into the living room for Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS.
"Wreck-It Ralph, as a brand entity, is perfectly suited for video game stardom," said David Oxford, Executive Vice President, Activision Publishing. "With the fantastic characters and creative atmosphere envisioned by Walt Disney Animation Studios, we know fans are going to love seeing their newfound favourite characters embark on an all-new side scrolling adventure."
From the mind of Director Rich Moore ("The Simpsons" and "Futurama"), the film chronicles the journey of Ralph, the bad guy in an arcade game who sets out to prove he can be the hero after all. However, Ralph mistakenly reverts to his clumsy nature and "wrecks" everything once again, unleashing a deadly enemy threat onto his video game neighbours. The movie hits theatres on 2nd November, 2012 in the US and features an all-star voice cast, including John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch.
The game picks up where the movie leaves off as Ralph partners with Fix-It Felix and sets out to save their friends and home from a huge Cy-Bug invasion. Pounding through all-new levels in the "Wreck-It Ralph" universe, like Sugar Rush, Hero's Duty, and Fix-It Felix, Jr., players will have to use Ralph's destructive strength to beat by the Cy-Bugs, while switching back to Felix to repair the damage. With story campaign and two-player co-operative on the Wii platform, players can switch between Ralph and Felix to solve action-packed puzzles and collect "Hero Medals."
A rumour has emerged thanks to a listing on Game Informer that was quickly removed. The game? Medal of Honour: Warfighter for Nintendo 3DS. Whilst Electronic Arts has confirmed the existing of Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC editions in October, nothing has been even hinted at regarding a portable iteration. However, given the popularity of the Nintendo 3DS, and its considerably increased power compared to the humble Nintendo DS, it is certainly not out of the question.
Game Informer also had the new Tomb Raider down for Wii U at one point, a title that had indeed been suspected as coming to Wii U, but the publication stated the database entry had merely been an erroneous posting.
