Welcome to the Word of Adam
Adam Riley, Operations Director at Cubed3, UK Voice Actor, Editor
Word of Adam is the home base of Adam Riley.  However, who is Adam Riley?  Many will know him as the purveyor of writing expertise at UK-based website Cubed3, rising from a mere contributor when the website launched in 2003 to becoming Operations Director at the end of 2011.  On the side, though, Adam has been building up work in other areas.  Other than writing for numerous websites and doing editing for scripts, male voice over work has become a strong feature, whilst working alongside developers to provide feedback on new videogame projects in a project consultancy role, offering new ideas to further games.  All the while working as a Track Design Engineer at Network Rail, and looking after his lovely wife.  Maybe 'expert juggler' should be added to his Curriculum Vitae as well...

Broken Sword Now Available on Android Devices

by Adam Riley on 06/29/12

Revolution Software has finally confirmed that its multi-award-winning adventure Broken Sword: The Director's Cut has been released worldwide on Google Play for Android phones and tablets.

An enhanced version of the iPhone classic, which itself earned an average Metacritic review score of 91% and achieved 5 million downloads in 2011, Broken Sword: The Director's Cut on Android is the most polished version to date, boasting its highest resolution visuals on phone or tablet. The game includes many unique features including a digital version of 'Watchman' co-creator Dave Gibbons' collector's comic, detailing the events which lead up to the explosive first scene.

One of the all-time classic adventures, multi BAFTA-nominated Broken Sword: Director's Cut pitches sassy journalist Nico Collard and intrepid American George Stobbart into a mysterious journey of intrigue and jeopardy. Players guide George and Nico on their globe-spanning adventure, exploring exotic locations, solving ancient mysteries, and thwarting a dark conspiracy to reveal the secret truths of the Knights Templar. Unique in terms of its production values, quality of narrative and contemporary plot weaving legend with fiction, the game is considered one of the best, most accessible adventure games ever written. George and Nico have become one of gaming's most celebrated  duos – appearing in three sequels.

"We are proud that Broken Sword: The Director's Cut is the first mainstream, high production value adventure game to be available on the Google Play store," says Charles Cecil, Managing Director, Revolution Software. "We've been overwhelmed by fans asking - or just demanding - that we bring the game to Android, but didn't just want to create a straight port. With the additional material we've been able to include, we hope that it'll prove popular to newcomers to the series, as well as offering a significantly enhanced reminiscence to those that played the original."

"The enthusiasm with which our fans have received our games is humbling. Our success in self publishing has allowed Revolution, for the first time in our 20 year history, to self-fund and so create games that we know our fans want to play. We will shortly be announcing details of an original adventure game that has been in development for six months."

Broken Sword: The Director's Cut is now available for Android phones and tablets from the Google Play store, priced GBP2.99.

Pokemon Black and White Sequels Hit Europe in October

by Adam Riley on 06/28/12

Dive into the world of Pokemon like never before when two new Nintendo DS Pokemon games and a downloadable Nintendo 3DS title arrive this October. The successors to the acclaimed Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version games, Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2, are set to launch for the Nintendo DS family of systems (playable on Nintendo 3DS in 2D mode) on Friday 12th October, 2012. Pokemon Dream Radar will also be available for purchase in the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS on the same day. This downloadable Nintendo 3DS title allows Nintendo 3DS owners to catch their favourite Pokemon, including some very rare ones, via the Nintendo 3DS cameras, using motion control and augmented-reality technology and transfer them into Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2.

Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 bring players back to the Unova Region two years after the events of Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version. There are many new areas to discover, and changes to familiar places for you to explore. One new area is Virbank City, home to Pokestar Studios. Players will be able to visit Pokestar Studios and star in their own movie with their favourite Pokemon. The movie a player creates premieres at the in-game theatre, where the audience gives it a rating. Movies are rated based on script choices and battle move sequences, and players can even create sequels to existing movies. There are many movie genres to choose from, including romantic comedy and horror.  Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 will also give fans of the original games a chance to catch up with some familiar friends. In this game, Cheren and Bianca return two years after the events of Pokemon Black Version and Pokemon White Version, and a lot has changed. Bianca is now the assistant to Professor Juniper, helping her with Pokemon research and Cheren is now a Gym Leader and a teacher at a school in Aspertia City, the starting location for this adventure.

In Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2, players will also be able to catch some of the Pokemon from outside the Unova region, such as Eevee, Riolu, Tyranitar, Arcanine and Mareep, right from the start of the game. If they are playing on Nintendo 3DS, players can also transfer Pokemon they have caught with the Pokemon Dream Radar into their Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 games (visible in 2D only). Pokemon Dream Radar lets players use several different features of the Nintendo 3DS system, including the Nintendo 3DS camera, motion control and augmented-reality technology, to discover and catch Pokemon. The game includes hard-to-find Pokemon such as the new Therian Formes of Legendary Pokemon Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus.  Also launching this Autumn for purchase from the Nintendo eShop, players can learn all about their favourite Pokemon with Pokedex 3D Pro for Nintendo 3DS. This enhanced and upgraded version of the original Pokedex 3D includes detailed information about every known Pokemon featured in the history of the Pokemon video game series.

IndieCity GameFactory Announced, Partnering with Blitz Games

by Adam Riley on 06/28/12

IndieCity is proud to reveal the IndieCity GameFactory, a mobile game-making workshop that makes game players into game producers. In partnership with Blitz Academy, Blitz Games Studios' long-established education outreach initiative, the GameFactory aims to break down the barriers that surround game development, enabling teams of Factory 'workers' to create their very own video game.

"There's a real need to challenge the perception that in order to make a video game you need years of experience and tonnes of money," explains IndieCity's Chris Swan. "Of course, there's no denying that game development is indeed a highly skilled vocation; the primary aim of GameFactory is to show people of all ages that they will already have some of those skills. It doesn't matter if you're 7 or 70, whether you're a hardcore game player or not, the GameFactory proves that with the right technology, a little imagination and some old-fashioned hard work and co-operation it's possible to produce a playable game that the makers can be proud of."

GameFactory is making its debut appearance at the Games Britannia video games festival in Sheffield next week. Operators will be split into teams who will each create the separate visual and audio assets to be used in their game utilising GameMaker, a free-to-use game development software package. Game makers will even get to choose the type of game they create, picking from a wide selection of genres including platformer, puzzle and even multiplayer games.

Mark Hardisty of Games Britannia: "We're absolutely delighted that the IndieCity GameFactory is debuting at Games Britannia. It's a fantastic way to inspire the next generation of game developers and we're extremely excited to see the results!" GameFactory sessions will be held through the week-long festival, with both visiting schools and the general public having the chance to try it out for themselves. For more information about the IndieCity GameFactory, including details of where it will be in the upcoming months please visit http://www.IndieCity.com/GameFactory

Sherlock Holmes Returns on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360

by Adam Riley on 06/28/12

Sherlock Holmes causes a stir! For over ten years, millions of players have donned the hat and magnifying glass of the world's greatest detective, in a dozen games for PC and handheld systems. This year, Sherlock Holmes makes a triumphant return in his very first adventure specially designed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. All the mystery and intrigue will also be available on PC.

1898, London. All the evidence of police investigation points at Sherlock Holmes as the main suspect in a case involving theft, fraud and double-crossings. Unable to prove his own innocence, Holmes is rapidly losing London's trust as doubt spreads through the city like wildfire. Even Doctor Watson's faith in his friend begins to waver, as the famous detective flees Scotland Yard and raises further suspicion; prowling around at night, destruction of evidence...would Holmes go so far as to commit murder?

A mainstay genre of console games, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is playable with a gamepad in a third person view, with controls thought and specially developed with consoles in mind. The new game engine was also specially built to display complex scenes and high-resolution textures. The game features lush, captivating environments and truly raises the bar for console adventure games. The complex and decidedly-mature storyline surrounds a particularly tricky investigation, in which each and every puzzle will challenge both insight and wits. As Sherlock Holmes, you will use the detective's full repertoire: handle and inspect clues, re-enact crimes and use the game's new deduction system to draw your own conclusions. Choose your questioning approach to catch characters off guard and gather valuable information. Players are facing an open investigation, and must decide which leads to follow and which to ignore.

Scotland Yard is relentless in its pursuit of the famous fallen detective, but did not manage yet to arrest the one who was, not so long ago, considered an exemplary citizen and a skilled investigator. Hunted, Holmes still continues his investigation and his questionable doings, right under the police's nose. The game has a dark ambiance and a strong story centered around a controversial hero with obscure motives. This is a thrilling investigation that players will have to lead, playing as both Holmes and Watson in turns. Multiple bloody murders, a strange illness that started to plague the population of London. These are the cases they will have to investigate upon, all the while trying to discover the reasons behind the strange actions of Sherlock himself.

You are Sherlock Holmes, and this is your investigation. Unfold an incredible conspiracy on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in September 2012.
